On 1 March 1993, Bill Hicks did his twelfth job on the David Letterman show. What the audience in the studio did not know was that Statement Hicks have been identified as having pancreatic cancer. Later that evening, Statement Hicks became the first comic censored from CBS'Letterman show. Perhaps fitting for the Ed Sullivan Theatre, where Elvis Presley was censored in 1956. But, while Presley was not permitted to be found below the waste, Hicks was created to disappear.

As reported in The New Yorker, Letterman greeted Hicks as he sat down on the chair with, "Good collection, Bill! Generally good to own you decline by having an positive information!" But, there clearly was difficulty in the air and Letterman knew it. Letterman went to industrial with, "Bill, appreciate answering your mail for the next several weeks."

In his resort, Bill walked out of the shower to solution the phone. Robert Morton...the Letterman show wasn't working his set.

Statement was terminally ill and realized it. He dreamed his Letterman display to be his swan song...what he could be recalled for. In many ways he may have been right. That debacle produced him more interest in The United States than his prior 11 Letterman appearances combined.

Within the next couple of days following the censorship, Bill Hicks executed three shows ranting harder than actually before. These three "post-Letterman reveals" as they have been named, have been thought maybe not captured. That a week ago, one of these brilliant three traditional reveals has only surfaced, the center show from 10/5/93, recorded by an market member who happened to be an audio engineer. There is a brief gap in the saving at the one-hour mark when he changed tapes, but the quality can be as large as may be likely from a hidden recording.
